The only thing worse than having a cold yourself is having a baby with a cold. Babies are usually too little for most medications and they don’t recover as easily. It’s so sad to see them coughing and full of booges not being able to do anything to help. Well, here are some tips to help your baby overcome a cold:
- Breastfeeding 👏🏻 your body will give the baby the defenses needed to fight the cold. Breastmilk changes depending on the baby’s needs, including sickness.
- Nasal saline spray and nasal aspirator. We love Nosefrida. It helps clear up the baby’s nose of all those annoying boogers and breath better since they can’t yet blow their noses on their own.
- Warm tea (only for babies 1 year or older) We love breath easy and throat coat by traditional medicinals. You could just give your baby chamomile tea (for babies 6 months and older). Just make sure the tea does not have any caffeine and is not too hot.
- Foods that are high in vitamin C. Make sure baby’s diet includes oranges, peppers, strawberries, broccoli, brussels sprouts, potatoes, kale, kiwis, papaya, etc.
- Warm baths with one or two drops of eucalyptus essential oil in them. Don’t add more than two drops!
- Congestion chest rub. Many are not safe for baby so it’s best if you make your own. But, if you don’t have time you can buy the thyme herbal cream by Just and apply a little bit on the baby’s chest, back and feet soles after bath time.
- An oil diffuser with eucalyptus essential oil in the room where the baby sleeps will help him breath better and therefore sleep better. Don’t put the oil diffuser too close to the baby.
- Last but not least, chicken soup loaded with spinach and tomatoes. Homemade is best 😉.
- To be honest I do all of these when anyone in the house is sick so use them for yourself if you’re the one feeling under the weather!
Get better soon 😘
