Taking your baby out on a family picnic is always a good idea! It may take a little extra work in bringing baby along with you on a picnic, but not that much really. You’ll already be packing up your own food to go along with all the other picnic-ing essentials like a good quality blanket and maybe some plastic kitchenware and eating utensils.
We prep babies food just like we would if feeding him at home. We bring the same plate and spoon so that there is still some familiarity with eating time, even though he is in a brand new environment. Be sure to bring extra water and towels to clean up and don’t forget a trash bag either!
Taking baby on the picnic with is great for his development. He gets to see new people and places. He gets to smell all the great odors of the outdoors, like freshly cut grass. There are such unique scents if you are in the mountains or forest or beach, as opposed to a park. Let baby explore some, but be careful, he may want to eat the grass and that can be a choking hazard.
Once baby gets older, there are a lot of fun activities he can do during the picnic, like kicking a ball around or tossing a frisbee. Who knows, maybe he’ll even make a new friend.
