Imagine you are captured in a spaceship and placed in a completely different world where you don’t know how anything works. Now you have to live there for the next 80 or so years. What would you do? Stay in a safe place (house) or go explore and figure out how things work?
Well, babies go through something similar. That is why is extremely important to take them outside often. With every noise they hear and every experience they have they start making sense of the world. The richness of their sensory environment is crucial to their cognitive development. Letting kids (from infants to 5 years of age) spend time outside promotes early language development since it gives them something to talk about.
Along with this, they get better social skills. Playing with different things outside also helps their physical development and recent studies show that it even helps them sleep better! So put your shoes on, open the door, and help your kiddo explore the world!
